A Mr Brown carried out a valuation survey of the Honour of Clitheroe on behalf of the estates held by Mary, the Duchess of Montagu and her sister Isabella the dowager duchess of Manchester, who were contesting the will of their father. Mr Brown reported that deer hunting had fallen into disuse in the area, and that "I know no advantage it is to the Ladies, at the distance they are from it, as they never receive any venison or other profit from it – except the Honour of appointing a Bow-bearer, and paying £15 a year to the keeper to do Mischief to themselves and all the neighbourhood".
The survey also listed all the tenants and their landholdings, including those around Radholme Laund, the old deer park – these are shown on the map.
